Contemporary technology enables us to can and preserve the summer's harvest to eat the year round. Greenhouses and the global agricultural marketplace, combined with the network of its commerce, can deliver fresh food where once there was none. While this has led to greater health and well-being for people who can afford this bounty, it has nonetheless removed from our lives yet another connection with the natural world around us.
