Digital-imaging techniques can now "see" portions of the electromagnetic spectrum that are beyond the range of normal human vision. Even data such as the amount of precipitation or ozone in the atmosphere can be recorded in digital images. Each pixel of a weather map, for instance, will contain a number that describes the amount of precipitation, and that number can be rendered as a color that can be used to visually evaluate data.
